We are constantly improving busy docs and have released many important updates over the past couple of weeks. Busy docs is now better performing and more stable then ever before.

To update to the current version, download the latest update here. Run the downloaded file and install it over your current busy docs installation. The update will not change any of your documents in busy docs, and it will not change your current license.

Here are a few of the improvements:

Busy docs now keeps a log file while synchronizing with Google Docs. All uploads, downloads, and file updates are recorded. You can access the log-file by clicking on the ”Logfile” label in the labels menu. To make sure busy docs is recording your log, please check the appropriate box in the Settings menu.

Busy docs now keeps a local revision history of documents changed on Google Docs. Whenever a document has changed on Google Docs, busy docs creates a backup of the the current local version before the new version is downloaded. The version history is saved in the busy docs folder on your computer. It is not yet accessible through the user interface. We will add this possibility soon.

Busy docs adds a label to each uploaded file and folder. This way you can quickly find the documents you have uploaded to Google Docs, or which documents have not been uploaded.

Users can now upload and synchronize a large number of documents. In earlier versions of busy docs, the number of files was limited to 100. The upload is now only limited by Google’s quota.

Many bug fixes that make the program more reliable. For example the folder structure is now replicated on busy docs exactly the same way as it appears on Google Docs, and changes are reflected accurately.

We have planned many more improvements and new features for the future. Please stay in touch.

If you have a Premium account, busy docs offers a great way to work on shared documents without converting them to a Google Docs format.

You may work with documents and spreadsheets that use features which are not available on Google Docs, but you need to share them with colleagues in another location.

You can upload the documents to Google Docs, but in the upload menu select “do not convert to Google Docs formats.” If both locations have busy docs installed and synchronize with the same account, they can now open the local copy of the document in busy docs. They can edit it comfortably with the programs on their local computer. Changes will be automatically synchronized with the online account and be available for the other location.

If both locations change the document at the same time, busy docs offers the option to choose which document to keep – the local version or the online version. This way you can first save your work, synchronize, and then copy and paste your latest changes into the latest version.

Let’s face it, writing a document on Google Docs is not the most comfortable option around. Busy docs is a great alternative.

For example, if you want to work with Microsoft Office, upload the document to Google Docs. Then you can find it in the Google Docs menu on the left side in busy docs. Click on it, and it will open in Microsoft Office or in your favorite word processor.

Now you can comfortably work on the document with all the office features that Word offers. Once you save it, it is automatically updated on Google Docs for your co-workers to share or for you to open somewhere else later.

I am currently writing most of my documents this way. They are all online, but I don’t have the limitations of writing in the web browser.

These are exciting times at Busy Docs. We are a small software company located in Boulder, Colorado. When we first started with the idea to write a Rails-based application to search over the local network we never imagined it would become such a popular tool for synchronizing with Google Docs.

Since our launch on August 15th, we have seen hundreds of downloads of the first version of Busy Docs, and so far the feedback is tremendously positive. It looks like this is a very promising product in a market with lots of potential.

However, to be successful in the long run we need more resources. Specifically, we are looking for a Business Partner who can help with Product Development. In order to grow market share, we need to fine tune and develop new features, find partnerships, and pursue an M&A strategy. We are also looking for Investors who are interested in a share of the company.

We are just starting out, and this is the best time to join for a significant part of the company. If you also think that Busy Docs is a good idea and would like to be part of it, please contact us at support@busydocs.com.
